Time to time, I prefer engaging in light sports like running, jumps, squats, and stair climbing. For me, physical activity is more than just staying fit — it’s a powerful way to clear my mind from daily issues and prepare my brain for another demanding workday. When I am at home, my routine usually starts with a light morning run along the Mediterranean promenade while everyone else is still asleep. But when I am at sea on a vessel, my options are different: jumps and squats in the morning, and stair climbing in the evening.
While counting squats or jumps manually is fairly easy, stair climbing is a completely different story. Once you reach the 150th, 200th, or 320th floor, it is ridiculously easy to lose count or simply forget where you were. The reason is simple: during these repetitive climbs, my mind continues processing shipboard problems, troubleshooting operational tasks, and brainstorming new technical ideas. My brain is focused on solving problems, not keeping tally.
The Lightbulb Moment: Hands-Free Counting via Bluetooth Remote
During one of those deep-thought stair sessions on the ship, an idea clicked. I needed a simple, lightweight app that could seamlessly and effortlessly keep count of my jumps or floors climbed without requiring me to look at or touch my phone screen.
I realized that almost everyone has a tiny Bluetooth camera shutter remote or an old pair of wireless earbuds lying around. By using these physical media/remote buttons, you can easily log every repetition with a simple click as you complete it. Your hand clicks automatically, and your brain stays 100% focused on your thoughts and ideas.
That is how REPULSE was born.
What REPULSE Can Do for Your Fitness Routine
I built REPULSE initially as a personal tool to solve my own problem, but after seeing how convenient it turned out to be, I decided to polish it and publish it on the Google Play Store so others could benefit from it too.
Here is what makes REPULSE a unique addition to your workout toolkit:
- Hands-Free Exercise Tracking: Syncs with Bluetooth remotes, camera shutters, or wireless headphones to count reps, jumps, squats, or stair floors without touching your smartphone screen.
- Full Health Connect Integration: Automatically synchronizes your completed workout sessions, exercise duration, and calorie burn data with Google Fit, Samsung Health, and other major fitness apps.
- Universal Simple Clicker: A minimalist tally counter designed for tracking any manual activity, reps, or custom events on the go.
- Versus / Scoreboard Mode: Built-in match scoreboard feature for team sports like football, basketball, hockey, or casual sparring matches, styled like a stadium display.
- Privacy-First & Lightweight: Operates locally on your device without intrusive ads or unnecessary data collection.
Constant Evolution & Future Updates
Although REPULSE was published on Google Play just a couple of days ago, I am already actively working on new improvements. I have a clear roadmap of ideas on how to update the interface, add useful functionality, and make the app even more intuitive and convenient for everyday workouts.
A new version with expanded features will be released very soon!
Download REPULSE on Google Play
Since REPULSE was originally created for my personal daily use on board and at home, I would love for you to test it out and share your feedback. Please don’t judge it too strictly, as it is still in its early stages, but I genuinely believe it will help anyone who wants to stay focused during workouts without losing count.
Try it out for your next workout session and let me know what you think!
